Safety and Environment Center for Energy and Natural Resources Development (SEC)

The Safety and Environment Center for Energy and Natural Resources Development (SEC) undertakes research and studies on safety and environmental protection related to the development of energy resources, including oil and natural gas, as well as initiatives toward the realization of a decarbonized society.
We are currently in a period of energy transition aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and solutions with broad perspective are required, including technological development for decarbonization (renewable energy, carbon recycling) and knowledge about future marine mineral resource development.
Since our establishment, we have been conducting research on the latest overseas trends regarding safety and environmental conservation issues associated with oil and natural gas development, such as “marine environmental impact assessments” when removing offshore platforms and deepwater energy development using subsea & floating production facilities.
Recently, we have been working to resolve various social issues to realize a decarbonized society and to establish the HSE foundations for energy resource development, including unconventional resources.
SEC will continue to contribute to the development of energy resources and the realization of a decarbonized society by serving as a think tank for security and environmental conservation.
